ILLINOIS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD RECRUITING

Direct Commissioning

The Army Medical Department recognizes the Health Care Professionals as qualified Commissioned Officers.

The entry grade / military rank depends upon your level of civilian education. For example:

  • 1st Year Medical Student: Second Lieutenant (2LT)
  • 1st Year Resident: Captain (CPT)
  • Medical Corps Doctor (Completed Residency): Major (MAJ)

A Direct Commission enables a Health Care Professional to enter the Military with minimum training. When enlisted soldiers enter the Military, they are required to attend Basic Training (9 weeks) and Advanced Individual Training (10 weeks ).

However, the AMEDD Commissioned Officer is only required to attend a two-week Officer Basic Course within their first two (2) years of service.(see Education
