Specialized Training Assistance Program (STRAP)


The STRAP provides financial assistance to participants engaged in specialized medical training (residency programs listed below) in return for part-time service in the Army National Guard.

The current STRAP pay is $973.00 per month.

Participants incur a service obligation of 2 years for each year or portion of a year in which they receive funds. This may extend a soldier's military obligation. Obligation commences upon completion of residency training.

The Specialized Training Assistance Program cannot be utilized in conjunction with any other incentive.

The qualifying specialties, followed by the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) code for the Specialized Training Assistance Program are as follows:

      • Preventive Medicine
      • Psychiatry
      • Internal Medicine
      • Family Practice
      • Orthopedic Surgeon
      • Emergency Physician
