In Sullivan, the Illinois National Guard's roots extend to a militia company formed in 1846 by Richard J. Oglesby who led his company during the Black Hawk War. Sullivan units participated in the Civil War, Mexican Border Crisis, World War I, World War II, and Korean War. Built in 1953, the armory has been the home to the Infantry and the 634th Brigade Support Battalion.
