Galesburg's military history began in 1861 with the contribution of Company E, Illinois Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Galesburg units have participated in World War I and World War II. Since 1915 the town has been home to Infantry, Air Defense, and Field Artillery units. The Galesburg Readiness Center was opened in 2007.
