Uis Staff Receive Dod Recognition As Patriotic Employers
Illinois Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) will hold a ceremony to recognize two staff members from the University of Illinois – Springfield with the presentation of the ESGR Patriotic Employer Award. The Patriot Award honors individual supervisors for their superior support to Guard and Reserve employees. Award nominations must be made by a National Guard and Reserve member or their spouse. Nominated employers receive the Patriot Award and accompanying “Patriot” lapel pin. The intent of the ESGR Awards Program is to recognize employers for their vital support to the members of the Guard and Reserve and to ESGR's mission. ESGR's 54 State Committees actively promote awards as a key element in furthering employer support, while strengthening relationships between service members and employers. ESGR awards, like the Patriot Award, honor the sacrifices made by so many employers year after year in supporting Guardsmen, Reservists and their families. This will be held on Friday, Nov. 16, at 10:00 a.m. at the UIS, Public Affairs Center, Conference Rooms C&D, Springfield, IL. The National Guard and Reserve make up nearly half of the U.S. military. Because of this, the “Citizen Warriors” of the Guard and Reserve play a vital role in our nation’s defense. The men and women of the National Guard and Reserve cannot be successful in accomplishing their mission without the continued support of employers who recognize the importance of the Reserve Components in the defense of our nation. The Patriot Award is one small way in which the Department of Defense and ESGR demonstrates its appreciation for employers who have publicly demonstrated their support for their employees who serve in uniform in the Guard and Reserve. Those involved include UIS staff members Scott Fay, Building Service Foreman, and Keith McMath, Assistant Director of Residential Facilities and Operations, who will be presented with the ESGR Patriot Award by the ESGR State Committee. Representing Illinois ESGR will be Dr. Michael Ayers, Ph.D., Illinois ESGR State Chair; Stan Zielinski, Illinois ESGR Central West Area Chair; Jack Kanady, Illinois ESGR Committee member; and LTC Tim Franklin, Illinois ESGR Program Director.
