Illinois Airman Receives Uso Of Illinois Service Salute Award

Founded in 2006, the USO of Illinois' Service Salute honors active duty, National Guard and reserve military members from Illinois who have gone above and beyond in service to their nation and their immediate communities. Stevens, assigned to the 183rd Fighter Wing Security Force Squadron, received the award for helping to save the life of a fellow airman who stepped on a land mine while on patrol outside Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan in 2011. For his actions, Stevens received the Air Force Achievement Medal. Stevens also received the USO’s first-ever National Guardsman of the Year award at the USO’s National Gala Nov. 2 in Washington, D.C.
