Brigadier General William D. Cobetto is the Assistant Adjutant General - Air, Illinois National Guard. Brig Gen Cobetto is responsible for the command, control and operations of plans and programs affecting more than 3,000 Illinois Air National Guard personnel located at Scott Air Force Base, Peoria, and Springfield, Illinois. His broad range of responsibilities include insuring combat readiness and mission capability of three major air bases comprised of flying wings, command and control facilities, logistics and mission support units, providing combat trained personnel to meet all United States Air Force mission requirements. BG Cobetto also supervises a full-time force of over 900 federal and state employees and oversees a combined operating and construction budget of more than $150 million annually. He is also coordinating the Illinois Air National Guard assistance and participation in the State Partnership Program with the Republic of Poland.

BG Cobetto received his commission in 1985 from the Academy of Military Science, Knoxville, Tenn. During his career he has served in several key positions. As the 183rd Fighter Wing Mission Support Group Commander, he directed and monitored support activities and units ensuring cohesive integration of functions and resources. Prior to that, he provided sound fiscal guidance as comptroller of the 183rd Fighter Wing. Of special note, BG Cobetto was mobilized in 2003 and served at the Pentagon assisting the Air Force Crisis Action Team and the Secretary of the Air Force Financial Management.

His professional military education includes Air War College by correspondence in 2002. BG Cobetto earned a Bachelor of Science from Parks College of Saint Louis University, Aeronautical Administration, in St. Louis, Missouri.

BG Cobettos' military awards and decorations include Meritorious Service Medal (1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Air Force Commendation Medal (2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal (Bronze Star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon (1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster), Armed Forces Reserve Medal (1 Bronze Hourglass and 1 'M' Device), Air Force Training Ribbon, Illinois Long and Honorable Service Medal (4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Illinois Military Attendance Ribbon (Arabic Numeral 13) and Illinois State Active Duty Ribbon (2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters). Other achievements of BG Cobetto includes Air National Guard Noncommissioned Officer Academy Graduate Association, Region Six, I.G. Brown Command Excellence Award, 2005
