

Command Sgt. Maj. Howard O. Robinson Sr. was
selected as the Illinois Army National Guard's 10th Command Sergeant
Major and 3rd state senior enlisted adviser in November 2011.
While serving in this position, CSM Robinson is
the principal enlisted adviser to the Assistant Adjutant General-Army on
all enlisted Soldier related matters. He is responsible for the training
of more than 11,000 Illinois Army National Guard Soldiers as the state
senior enlisted adviser and to provide leadership and guidance and to
ensure Soldier readiness at all times.
With more than 20 years of service Robinson began
his career in the Illinois Army National Guard on July 8, 1983 serving
with the 2nd Battalion, 122nd Field Artillery in Chicago. He has served
as headquarters battery fire support sergeant, battalion fire support
sergeant, brigade fire support sergeant, battery senior enlisted
adviser, intelligence sergeant and operations sergeant. In 2003 Robinson
was selected as battalion senior enlisted adviser for 2nd Battalion,
123rd Field Artillery Regiment based in Milan, Illinois with subordinate
units in Galesburg and Macomb, Illinois. Robinson served in this
battalion until September 2005 when he was reassigned as the battalion
senior enlisted adviser for 2nd Battalion, 122nd Field Artillery in
Chicago. Robinson served as the brigade senior enlisted adviser for the
404th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade based in Chicago from 2009 to 2011
before assuming his current position.
CSM Robinson is a graduate of the United States
Army Sergeant Major Academy. His military education also includes the
Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course and other NCO and leader
development course. Robinson served overseas in Germany participating in
a War Fighter Exercise at U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr.
CSM Robinson's awards and decorations include
Meritorious Service Medal 2nd award, Army Commendation Medal 4th Award,
Army Achievement Medal 3rd Award, Overseas Training Service Ribbon 2nd
award, Humanitarian Service Medal, Long and Honorable Service Ribbon,
Armed Forces Reserve ribbon, Noncommissioned Officer Professional
Development Ribbon, National Defense Service Ribbon.
In his civilian career, CSM Robinson served as a
healthcare administrator for the Cook County Bureau of Health Systems In
this role he had oversight for the Departments of Environmental
Services, Dietary, and Emergency Preparedness. Robinson is currently
pursuing his Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration at Governors
State University.
CSM Robinson belongs to the American Legion Post
in Hazel Crest and the Fraternal Order of St. Barbara (Field Artillery),
the National Association of Health Services Executives and the Hazel
Crest Veterans Commission.
CSM Robinson is married and has three
children and four grandchildren.
