The mission of the Dental Corps in
peace is to ensure that each soldier is in optimal oral health and prepared
to deploy without becoming a non-combat dental casualty. A secondary mission
is to provide dental health care to family members and other eligible
beneficiaries of the military community. In war, the mission of the Dental
Corps is to conserve the fighting strength of soldiers by the restoration
and preservation of oral health and function.
The Dental Corps is a special branch of the Army composed
of commissioned officer who are graduates of dental school accredited by the
American Dental Association . To practice dentistry, a dental officer must
possess a DDS or DMD degree and a valid, current, unrestricted license.
The Dental Corps specialty, followed by the Military
Occupation Specialty (MOS) code is General Dentist, 63A.
Qualify for the
Health Professional Loan Repayment Program (HPLRP), and
Continuing Medical Education (CME).
