Normal, Ill. - Family, friends, fellow Soldiers and colleagues applaud Illinois Army National Guard Lt. Col. Aaron A. Hepner after he presented flowers to his wife, Jennifer, during his promotion ceremony at Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois, Aug. 14, 2026. Hepner, the S3 operations officer for the Peoria-based 65th Troop Command, Illinois Army National Guard, was promoted from major to lieutenant colonel during the ceremony, which recognized his leadership and more than 16 years of military service.
