Brigadier General John M. Green is the Air National Guard Assistant to the Air Force Deputy Judge Advocate General, Washington, D.C. As the ANG Assistant to the Deputy Judge Advocate General, General Green serves as the primary advisor to DJAG on Air National Guard legal matters relating to the 90 Air National Guard Wings’ operational support of the federal mission of the Air Force and the performance of Title 32 and state active duty. As a senior member of the of the Air National Guard JA Council, General Green serves on the leadership team that advises the Air Force Judge Advocate General and the Director of the Air National Guard on legal issues impacting the Air National Guard. He was selected as an inaugural member of the National Guard Bureau’s Legal Services Advisory Group that advises the Chief of the National Guard Bureau on all matters involving legal services and operations of the National Guard.
General Green received a direct commission as an Air Force judge advocate in April 1998. Prior to being assigned to JFHQ, he served as the Staff Judge Advocate of the 183d Wing. General Green has also served as judge advocate to the Commander of Task Force Pelican during Hurricane Katrina and as senior Title 32 legal advisor to the Dual Status Commander for NATO Summit in Chicago. He is admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of Illinois, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois, the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals.
In his civilian capacity, General Green serves as Senior Vice President and Legislative Counsel for the Illinois CPA Society. Prior to entering the private sector, General Green served as Executive Assistant Attorney General for two Illinois Attorneys General. He serves as a member of the Illinois Attorney General’s Charitable Advisory Committee, the Illinois Department of Revenue Director’s Advisory Group, and the Illinois Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission. General Green is an Eagle Scout and is a Council Member At-Large of the Abraham Lincoln Council Boy Scouts of America. A past president of the Western Illinois Alumni Association, General Green is a recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award.
