Dan and Nancy Anzelone, of Romeoville, Illinois. Dan died from coronavirus April 21, just days following his wife’s death from the virus April 8. Dan worked as a Family Assistance Center Specialist at the Illinois Army National Guard’s readiness center in Crestwood.

Co-workers describe Dan Anzelone, of Romeoville, as a “breath of fresh air who was dedicated to his work and worried about everyone else before himself.” His daughter, Pam, says her parents were “kind and very supportive” of both her and her sister. Anzelone died April 21 from coronavirus, just 13 days after his wife of 32 years, Nancy, died from the virus April 8.

Illinois National Guard Will End Missions at Developmental Centers Late Monday

The Illinois National Guard will end its missions supporting Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) developmental centers in Park Forest and Kankakee late Monday after the state was able to line up additional support for the facilities starting early Tuesday.

Polish Military Medical Personnel Join Illinois' COVID-19 Response Efforts

Nine members of the Polish military’s Medical Corps will be in Chicago to support the state’s response to COVID-19 April 23 to May 2. The Polish doctors, nurses and emergency medical technicians recently treated COVID-19 patients in Italy and Poland. They are visiting Illinois as part of the Illinois National Guard’s State Partnership Program with the Polish military, one of the longest standing and the most successful such program in the United States.

Governor Activates about 190 Additional Illinois National Guard members for COVID-19 Response Operations

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has activated approximately 190 additional Illinois National Guard Soldiers and Airmen to support the operation of two Community Based Testing Sites (CBTS) and other missions in support of COVID-19 response operations. This brings the total number of activated Illinois National Guard members to about 1,150.

Approximately 400 Illinois Army National Guard Soldiers who served in the U.S. Central Command Area of responsibility returned home this weekend. The 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment, headquartered in Chicago, with companies in Chicago, Bartonville, Elgin, Kankakee, and Woodstock, mobilized in July in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel.
