Athens Soldier Appointed First Sergeant of Springfield-based Illinois Army National Guard Unit

Illinois Army National Guard Master Sgt. Clint Murphy, of Athens, Illinois, was appointed as First Sergeant, Company C, 634th Brigade Support Battalion, based in Springfield, Illinois. Murphy was pinned at a ceremony Oct. 23 at the Illinois Military Academy, Camp Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois.

“You have learned from so many good non-commissioned officers,” said Col. Daniel Reichen, of Springfield, Illinois, Military Personnel Officer, Illinois Army National Guard. “You have incorporated that knowledge into your own skill set. I see a great future ahead of you.”

Murphy, joined by his wife, Jessica, daughter Dylan and son, Van, thanked his family for their support.

“You have always supported me,” Murphy said. “Without your support this would be hard. My wife makes my job easy. I’m looking forward to this next chapter.”
