IL, US - Sergeant 1st Class Ken Pence of Sherman, Illinois, the State Ammunition Manager for the Illinois National Guard with the Joint Force Headquarters based in Springfield, Illinois walks through the Tyne Cot Cemetery Aug. 4 in Zonnebeke, Belgium. Approximately 35 Soldiers like Pence travelled to Belgium and France to visit historical battlegrounds and museums. Dr. Brian Neumann, historian with U.S. Army Center of Military History and Maj. Brian Faltinson, deputy director of the Wiscosin National Guard taught the Soldiers about the battle tactics used during the battles as well as personal accounts from the World War I.
