SPRINGFIELD, Illinois - Maj. Gen. Rodney Boyd, Assistant Adjutant General – Army and Commander of the Illinois Army National Guard, and Col. Michael Eastridge, former commander of the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, present Chris Elstoft, Consul General of Australia in Chicago, with a plaque honoring the shared history between the Illinois National Guard and Australia during a ceremony commemorating the Battle of Hamel, a World War I battle which marked the first time U.S. forces fought alongside the Australian military, and marking the 300th birthday of the Illinois National Guard in Springfield May 6.
