ILNG Joins Polish Consulate for Polish Armed Forces Day Event

Chicago, Ill. - The Polish Consulate in Chicago invited the Illinois National Guard to participate in Polish Armed Forces Day on Sunday, Aug. 18. The commemoration included wreath layings at the Polish World War II Veterans Monument, the Polish World War I Veterans Monument, at the Katyn Monument and Smolensk Commemorative Plaque, and at the Monument in Honor of the Men of Saint Hyacinth Parish who served in World War I. The Illinois National Guard also participated in a Polish American Veterans Mass at the St. Hyacinth Basilica in Chicago. The Illinois National Guard has shared a State Partnership Program with the Polish military for more than 30 years. The Illinois Army National Guard's 144th Army Band provided music throughout the day. The Illinois National Guard's presiding officer was Brig. Gen. Justin Osberg, the Director of the Illinois National Guard Joint Staff.
