SPRINGFIELD, Illinois - Lt. Col. Michael Barton, Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, Illinois Army National Guard, shares a story of watching Desert Storm unfold on cable television during the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs’ Desert Storm Remembrance Ceremony Feb. 28 at the Illinois State Military Museum, and how, as a young boy of 12-years-old, he would turn on the cable news immediately after school to receive the latest updates.
